For the last few years, there has been an on-going tirade and backlash in the Muslim world over the Mohammed cartoons. As everyone in the West has been forced to realise, Muslims go ape-shit if an image of their prophet is in anyway portrayed in a picture, whether in a positive or negative light. Many Non-Muslim Western apologists have gone along for the ride with their typical mock-outrage that any minority could have their human rights abused or ridiculed.

Below is a series of pictures, which are mostly rather gruesome to look at. However, for Islamists and indeed, many moderate Muslims, there is one image that will drive the rage-o-meter off the scale. Can you guess which one it is? (click on the image to enlarge)

Amazing isn’t it?

Yesterday (20th May) was ‘Draw Mohammed Day’. A Facebook page was set up for people to post their drawings of the Islamic Prophet Mohammed. Over 90,000 people became a ‘fan’ of the page and at the last count around 4,000 images had been posted. Admittedly, some of the pictures were gratuitously offensive in that they showed Mohammed with items and in scenes that would make your grandmother blush. However, that’s not the point. Many were neutral and even positive reproductions of classical and mundane portraits of Mohammed or Arab-looking men with beards.

What went wrong? Facebook went wrong. Today the page no longer exists as Facebook has removed it. While one only has to type in ‘Jews’ and ‘Israel’ into the search box to find rabid hate groups, mostly created by Muslims, a simple page of drawings and cartoons which were a symbol of freedom of expression, has been obliterated.

Danish and other European cartoonists live in fear of their lives because of drawings they created portraying Mohammed. Some have had their homes attacked whilst infamous incidents such as the murder of Theo Van Gogh still haunt the streets of Amsterdam. These cartoons and drawings were a symbol of post-Enlightenment values being defended against 7th Century barbarism. The capitulation of Facebook over this, is disappointing to put it mildly but sadly, not surprising.

The question remains, when will we, the West, stand up for our values and liberty? Before or after it is too late?

I was tagged on Facebook with a meme called “25 things you may or may not know about me…”. Seeing as this blog is just over a week old, I thought it would be a suitable to introduction to any repeat readers I might already have and a clear warning sign to those who like to avoid insanity. The 25 are as follows:

1. I entered the world a crying wreck from a 9 month hibernation in a warm womb. I’ve not yet fully recovered. This took place in the old city of Lancaster in north west England.

2. Upon reaching my 6th birthday, I announced to my stunned parents that I was converting to Vegetarianism. After a few failed exorcisms, they finally relented and began purchasing rabbit food from then on in.

3. My family moved about the country a lot during my childhood and teenage years which meant many new schools, new friendships and new posts to pee up.

4. I lived in Wales for two years and disliked my time there intensely. So much so that at the age of 10 I decided that the little principality should be eradicated and went on to study books on nuclear technology. The sheep would of course have been evacuated first.

5. My parents were both teachers before they retired which helped when it came to homework during my school days. In fact, they probably did most of it.

6. I’m an only child and used to look upon my cats as siblings. I realised I was different from then when I couldn’t angle my head towards my bottom.

7. I’ve always been good at drawing and have won numerous Art awards.

8. Now I consider myself a poet and write personalised custom-made poetry for people who are willing to pay for it.

9. I lived in Berlin for a year and a half in my mid-20s which gave me a lot of perspectives I had not before enjoyed. It was there that many of my current political beliefs were generated through many fascinating conversations with my American neighbour and his wife.

10. I’m a proud Zionist.

11. I consider myself to be a Neo-Conservative.

12. I’m a strong Judeophile and would convert to Judaism if I wasn’t an atheist. Many times I am left in awe at the achievements, ethics and bravery of the Jewish people and indeed, the State of Israel.

13. During my time in Berlin, I started my first blog where I wrote short stories about the people I saw in the German capital city. That blog can be found here: Beaman In Berlin.

14. I gained a degree in Interior Design after three years at Art College. Whilst I don’t regret the friendships and the fun times, I do regret the fact that I didn’t study politics instead. My love for this subject and many others came later in life.

15. In my late teenage years I went through a ‘Buddhist phase’ which led to twice daily meditation sessions and copious amounts of reading. Unfortunately, I was too impatient for enlightenment and meditated with my new computer instead.

16. I adore snow and thunder storms, often following the weather religiously if I know there is a possibility of either one happening in the near future.

17. I dislike fascism, totalitarianism, intolerance, sexual inequality, arranged/forced marriages, terrorism, religiously permissible lies and cultural regression – therefore I despise the religion of Islam and see it as the greatest threat to civilisation.

18. When writing I use my right hand but for many other things such as opening bottle tops and turning the tap on, I use my left hand.

19. My favourite television sitcom of all time is Frasier. It’s quite possible that I’ve watched each episode at least three times.

20. My favourite sports are football (soccer) and Formula One motor racing. Michael Schumacher has been my sporting hero since 1994.

21. I support Wolverhampton Wanderers FC who are also called ‘Wolves’ for short.

22. I’m an introvert by nature but love to be with people and don’t mind large groups or packed public places. As long as I can have time alone to recharge and don’t have to shout, I am happy. I love discussions and debates that last for hours.

23. A dream of mine is to write for a magazine or journal as a political satirist or in-house poet.

24. I strongly believe in the advancement of Western ideals across the globe and hold them up as the pinnacle of human development. If the whole world was like North America and Europe in values, society and political structure, then I truly believe there would be no more wars or widespread human suffering.

25. I’ve recently met the girl I want to be with for the rest of my life. A beautiful Indian girl by the name of Shailee.

—-
